Rare Bird is primarily a one woman show, but designer and owner, Pauline Stanley, considers her company a family affair. Her husband Geoffrey Stanlely, is in charge of accounting, her lovely sisters do all the modeling and family and friends often help out when enlisted. Rare Bird wouldn't be what it is without all those involved.
About Rare Bird
Handcrafted Minimalist Jewelry
Pauline Stanley, born and raised in Virginia, now lives with her raucous family of seven, including her husband, two sons, two cats and one dog, in the Bon Air area of Richmond, VA. She has been making jewelry and accessories since 2006. In 2008, she built a business as a vintage clothing and jewelry seller for her online shop, Fashion House Vintage. There she cultivated a love for all things vintage but missed utilizing her creativity to express her own perspective in design.
She then decided to devote her time and effort to developing her creativity and learned screenprinting, hand dyeing and metalsmithing techniques. In 2011, she created her own handmade shop, Rare Bird, on Etsy that provided her an outlet to sell some of the accessories and jewelry pieces she was making out of her home. There she found and community of people that shared her vision. Today she continues to run her handmade shop out of her home studio, while furthering her skills in jewelry and fabric design. With over 4,000 orders made in the past few years on Etsy, she has now built her own stand alone ecommerce shop at rarebirddesigns.com.
In her current designs, she finds an incredible amount of inspiration from vintage/ midcentury design and loves translating them into modern designs for everyday wear. Her pieces share the same elements of quirk, geometry, color, simplicity and earthy-ness that makes them her own. Most of all, she is happy growing her little business where she can make things and share them with a community of people who appreciate the importance of handmade.
